Noburu's field of expertise is bioenvironmental informatics and agricultural robotics engineering. In addition to holding a research position at Hokkaido University since 1990, Noboru is also a program director for the Cabinet Office's Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP), Technologies for Creating Next-Generation Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and president of the Japanese Society of Agricultural, Biological and Environmental Engineers and Scientists.
IoT, big data, and AI are the key technologies that will contribute to the growth of Japan's agricultural industry. The Cabinet's SIP "technologies for creating next- generation agriculture, forestry and fisheries" program aspires to achieve such growth.
