INTRODUCTION

Harvest is a three day competition for engineers, designers and entrepreneurs from all over the world. In this contest, participants will try to create technological solutions for 4 categories of issues faced by the agriculture, forestry and fisheries industries. The winning teams will join an accelerator program and will be invited to the main event in May.

4 CHALLENGES

Participants will try to come up with a solution for issues from one of the following categories.

Finance
Utilize FinTech for the benefit of the agriculture industry
- Improve management and utilisation of funds.
- Increase adoption of online/mobile banking for farmers.
Productivity
Streamline operations and increase productivity
- Improve awareness of tools and practices, and increase adoption rate.
- Simplify management.
Globalization
Improve international competitiveness
- Increase awareness about global demands.
- Optimize import/export processing.
Revitalization
Revitalize agricultural regions and communities
- Connect people with an interest in agriculture with those who have the resources.
- Promote intergenerational cooperation.
- Provide financial support for new farmers.

REQUIREMENTS

Schedule (1) Registration Saturday, January 28 – Thursday, February 16, 2017

(3) Event Dates February 17-19, 2017 (3 days)
CapacityApprox. 120 (split into 24 teams with 3-5 members)
Participation Requirements Individuals or teams that meet the following requirements may apply to participate in the Event. Applicants are not required to have any prior agriculture-related knowledge or experience.
  • Applicants must be aged 20 or older at the time of the Event (students allowed)
  • Applicants must be teams of 3-5 members or individuals at the time applying (individuals whose application is accepted will need to join or be added to a team by the start of the Event)
  • Applicants must be able to attend every day of the Event. Note that Applicants are responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the venue and for accommodation, etc.
  • Winning teams must be able to participate in the accelerator program
  • As a general rule, a representative from each winning team must participate in meetings and workshops expected be held roughly once a week during the accelerator program
  • Participation in the Event must not breach any contracts such as employment contracts between an Applicant and a third party
  • Applicants must agree to these Rules and the “Handling of Personal Information” prescribed by the Organizer
  • Team members should decide the attribution of rights. The Organizer shall not get involved in such discussions.
Participation FeesParticipation is free (participants are responsible for all transportation costs to and from the venue and for accommodation costs on all days.)
Items to Bring to Harvest
  • Photo identification (e.g. driver’s license, passport, residence card, etc.)
  • Any items necessary for developing and for giving presentations (e.g. PC), etc.
  • [Optional] Sleeping bag/pillow so you can get some rest if you do not wish to leave the venue.
Precautions
  • The venue is equipped with electrical outlets and wireless LAN (but not wired LAN). Please bring your own AC adapter.
